Question on M1903 Mark I Sight Leaf
Hi folks! Question for you. I have recently acquired a Mark I with really great metal. Was the sight leaf originally polished bright or finished black? With the passage of time, it is hard to tell. Thanks! H.T.
P.S. And while I have your attention, anyone know a source for a Mark I stock in nice shape?

I am fairly sure that prior to WW2, all sight leaves were polished bright. However, they could have dulled over the years due to exposure to the elements. and appear dark. I think that my early Remington M1903 rifle ( 12-41 barrel date ) has a bright sight leaf. Later WW2 sight leaves were parkerized and the range markings were filled with a white material.
