Let an expert have a look. Try Brian at BDL Ltd in SC. He is an Enfield specialist

The Indian barrels are excellent in my experience.

Is this a good or bad project?
If you plan on keeping it and shooting it, I say it's a great project.
I have an Enfield barrel vice, action wrench, headspace gauge, etc, but I am no expert. If I want a really nice job, I ship it to an expert who knows the finer points of bedding the barrel and action... doing the trigger, etc. I figure I am already spending money for a new barrel, why not get it done right and have a really accurate rifle. I know I wouldn't be happy with less. Shooting well gives me a feeling of personal satisfaction. I don't get that feeling if the rifle is not accurate. It feels like a waste of ammo and I am done after three or four shots. I will shoot an accurate rifle for hours and go home feeling good.
