No#4 Mk2 front sight question
Did #4 Mk2's have the front sight locking screw? Mine does not seem to have one. To replace the front sight do I just drive out the old sight and drive a new one in?
Thanks,
Rick

Both Mk.1 and Mk.2 foresight blocks are correct on the Mk.2. I have a used but factory original '53 date on the wall for sale and a nos '55 date in the safe. The '53 has a Mk.2 block and the '54 date a Mk.1. I'd guess they used whatever they had throughout production.

My Savage/Stevens Enfield Mk1/3 FTR '56 has the screw-adjustable Mk1 Sight, which was original to the Savage.
On my Mk2, the sight is without the adjusting screw; and was missing the sight. I simply drove in a new one with a few taps with a small hammer and wooden block. It's a wedge tight fit.
Regarding how to drive out the old sight, I believe Captain Laidler addressed that on another thread recently.

Just remember that you need the correct front sight blades for the solid block. Either Mk.3 or Mk.1* with the split dovetail are correct.
