my new Inland
My partner at work told me his dad had a couple of M-1 carbines he was thinking of selling and asked me if I would take a look at them. So I went to the man's house and about had to change my shorts. The way they were described to me I was expecting at best a couple of rough service carbines or maybe a couple of universals.
What I found was two new new carbines. The first was a 44 Inland with out a month date, a type2 barrel band and a push button safety, and all Inland parts, and the inside covered in cosmoline. The second was a Saginaw S'G" 3000 numbers into the first run, that had seen a rebuild.
I was told someone had carved their initials into the stock,it turned out to be a rebuild stamp. The owner told me that he was living in California in the early and mid 60's And one of his friends was an armorer. The asked him if was interested in an M-1 carbine and a week later brought him these two. He said he put the Inland in the closet and never shot it, and put a couple of hundred rounds through the Saginaw.
I told the gentleman the best price I could offer him was 1500 for both rifles. A week later he called me and said his middle son wanted the Saginaw , but would I be willing to buy the Inland for 800.Well I now have another Inland.I'll try to get some pics next time I'm home.
