M1903 Magazine Spring
Good Morning
I have 2 magazine springs for my M1903 Springfield (not a3) The one that was in the rifle is slightly taller than the replacement I purchased. The diagonal legs are also slightly longer as well. The width and step down where the spring goes into the follower is the same.
Can you tell me what do I have and what did I buy.
I purchased a new spring because the nose of the follower sometimes gets hung up in the magazine, so I thought it might be worn out.
Somehow I have doubled the pictures and can't seem to figure out how to remove one set.
Thanks
Stuart

It looks like the same spring, they would take a set after being loaded for some time. The new one may not be exactly the same because of the time it was made. It may be a bit bigger because it's unused.

Different manufacturers can produce springs that function the same but don't look the same.

Just to make it clear, the replacement is the smaller one. It is shorter top to bottom and the diagonal legs are shorter as well. I was thinking that maybe the one that was in the rifle is for an M1917 and the replacement is actually correct for an M1903.

They could both be correct, hard to say from here...
