Bayonet won't fit over frnt sight base on my 1891/59... Help!

    Hi all,
I've got an 1891/59, '42, Mosin Nagant carbine that came with the spike bayonet.
However, the front sight base is too wide to allow the slot of the bayonet to slide over and rotate.
Apparently there are different widths of front sight bases depending on the specific rifle build-type.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I try to find another spike bayonet with a wider slot, if there is such a thing?
    2. Just Dremel the sight base on both sides until the bayonet fits over and slides by?
    3. Or Dremel the bayonet slot wider to fit over the wide sight base?

    Good one, huh?

Any suggestions would be appreciated especially if someone has experienced this problem.

    Thanks to all,
    reddhawk out.

Your bayonet won't fit because M91/59s were not designed nor intended to take a bayonet......

I didn't know that, no wonder it won't fit.
It came with the rifle when I bought it, so I just figured...
Anyway, thanks for the info and great documentation material on my rifle.

    reddhawk, out.
