Uk No7 and N9 rifles
Just a quick querie for .22" RF No7 and N9 owners. I found a few of these rifle backsights in an old cupboard at my sons school Cadet Force some weeks ago. They'd been taken off their RAF and RN issue No7 and 9 rifles when they were presumably replaced with the P-H type sights in the past.
There seems to be two types of sight. They are all converted original Mk1 clicker type (including one Enfield DE marked!!!!! but F and BSA marked as well). As well as the 25yds and horizontal marker line across the slide and leaf on the left side, a couple have 25 marked on the top left side of the backsight leaf.
My No7 doesn't nor does the N9 at Warminster. Has anyone else got a No7 or N9 with the 25 mark on the top left side of the backsight leaf. Are these early or late? Are they for one or the other?
Any photography wizzzzzard out there in forumland put a photo up to illustrate the left side marker of a No7/N9 backsight
I learned some other things about these sights if anyones interested

The 7 I bought just had the ordinary milled sight

It must/should have this sort of sight according to the RAF parts list.
Thanks for the picture Promo. Does anyone have a sight with the figure 25 on the top left face of the leaf?

You got me curious so I dug out my No8. It has the 25 and 50 on top of the sight. Sorry no no7. Gary

My British No.9 rifles have the number 25 on the left sight of the sight body but the British no.7 Mk.1's do not have the marking on the side of the sight body. The Canadian No.7 has a much different rear sight so that one is a moot point.

Your sight Arado is the correct one for your No8, being calibrated to 25 - 50 - 100 - and a small H at the top of the sight.
The UK No7 and 9 sights should be marked exactly as per Promos picture but SOME of the No7 rifle sights have a similar figure 25 on the face of the leaf, at the top left corner, to the left of the adjusting knob.
If I was any good at picture taking or had a decent camera or knew about computers, I'd take a pic. We'll see!

Just like Promo and Wheaty, my No. 9 has the markings on the side only.

Left side of the UK spec No7 and N9 sights where the line across the slide and leaf indicates 25 yards and what appears to be a (probably/possibly) later UK No7 sight showing the figure 25 on the top left front face of the sight leaf. This is probably there to prevent the sights being used on a RAF service No4 rifle where it's be obviously apparent.
