Bayonets for auction
I know nothing of bayonets but just been to a monday auction viewing:-
Two bayonets both with leather scabbards
One marked Ross Rifle Co 1907 - circa 10" blade
Other marked Remington 1918 - circa 15/18" blade
Any comments?
Regards
John

Sure, one's for a Ross Rifle (Canadian)
And the other is for a M1917 Enfield.

The 1918 Remington is a bit of an oddity since it should have been marked 1917. Someone at Remington was unaware that 1917 was the model number and not the year of manufacture date. Quite a number were produced with the wrong marking until the error was caught.
They are somewhat scarce but not exactly rare. They show up for sale more often than Winchester bayonets (martial and commercial combined). Many sellers fail to recognize any sort of premium for the 1918 date.
