guys, what is the difference between an SA type 2 lock bar and a WIN. type 2 lock bar??? i know about the rough machining marks on the face of the win but, are they the same in appearence on the rear with the curved cut near the ends???? any body have a SA type 2 they want to sell?? thank you--------

Sure they did. Here is a pic of a round end Winchester lock bar for the long pinion (commonly called a type II) and a square end Winchester lock bar. To answer the original question, I don't know of any way to discern for sure whether a lock bar is Winchester or SA. Some Type II lock bars were very smooth and probably made by SA, but some SA lock bars also had the machining marks, so I don't know how you would tell. Also there are different outer profiles even among lock bars from the same manufacturer. Six slightly different outer profiles have been identified for Winchester alone. So, in my opinion, if your lock bar is perfectly smooth on the face it is probably SA. If it has machining marks it could be either. Both SA and WRA round end lock bars had the curved cuts on the backside.
