Ciao Matt, good start!
A 1899 Carcano is a very good find.
More detailed info can be found here: www.il91.it
It is in Italian, but tons of info and pictures of any detail.

Interesting rifle. Did it start life as an M91 Moschetto T.S. or did they take an 1899 barrel in 38 to make an M91/28 Moschetto TS. I see the stock matches, but I have trouble seeing how they could convert the old style stock (with larger nose cap) to the newer style with a smaller nose cap and barrel band without leaving evidence of the modification. I guess they could have given it a new stock in 38 and just stamped the stock to match. Although, the addition of the rear side sling mount looks like a subsequent modification.
I assume you have the gun by now. Have you taken it apart? Any interesting markings?
