No. 5 MK1- who made it? and a bayonet?

    List,

I just picked this up from my father, and I was wondering about its history or who made it? All I know is that he told me it was made in India. Is it a WW2 era or something that was made much later?

I checked for any marking and what I do find isnt easily read, so I took a few photos in hopes that someone can help.

I am also interested in a bayonet for it. It doesnt have to be an original, I just like to have bayonets for my old surplus rifles Anyone know a good source for a reasonably priced one?

    Thanks in advance. Mike

It appears to be a No5 Mk1 (commonly called Jungle carbine) it was manufactured at the Fazakerly factory near Liverpool Englandicon.

Original bayonets are scarce and fetch around $200 US
There are repro bayonets out there, most are Indian copies, some fit and some dont.

The current crop of RFI bayonets from IMA seem to be quite good.

And yes, it's a WWII era rifle. They were made from 1943-47.

ROF (F) = Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley

I use one as a work rifle and hunting rifle. I get more fun out of it than others i use. If ammo is too dear, reload that will give more satisfaction
