"Modify Vise"; this thing should be selling like hotcakes!
I happened to find one of these vises in the surplus section at Princess Auto recently. I was frankly amazed by how well engineered and built this thing is. I'm guessing these are made by whoever in Taiwan builds the "Lothar Walther" vises sold by Brownell's as it looks identical but for the jaws. The company that builds(?) and markets them is an airsoft outfit and they seem to be targeting it only to the airsoft crowd. BIG mistake IMHO; anyone who works on guns, optics, fine furniture, musical instruments, antiques...you name it, they'll find this damn useful.
Basically an update of the Parker-Hale "Bisley Vise", only with three sets of jaws instead of two, and replaceable and reversible nylon(?) jaws at that. Very smooth, very adjustable, excellent control of pressure, obviously strong and an aluminum alloy so only 7.25lbs weight. There's a so-so video or two on dating from the product launch in 2011. I have NO IDEA why this thing has not taken off like a rocket except poor exposure.
Who makes a good gun vise these days? You can buy all the cast iron bench vises you want, but purpose made for firearms and light enough to take on the road or to the range?
If you're in Canada, Princess Auto made a limited, one-time buy of these and they have about ten left last I heard. For $159.00 CAN they're a steal IMO. Someone on eBay has a couple in the USA for $188 US each. Still a good buy!
NB: the one below has the earlier mounting screw cap: the current ones are much larger and stronger.
