    Carl Gustasstads

    Evening,
I have a rifle in like new condition and I cannot seem to properly identify it. It has Carl Gustafsstads 1914 Gevarsfaktori on the barrel and 037 stamped back on the receiver. Is this a WWII rifle? It is in such good condition I cannot believe it is that old.

I will post some pictures ASAP.

    Thanks for any help

    Carl Gustav is from SWEDEN

    It's a SWEDISH rifle. A Swedishicon Mauser

No. Sweden did not participate. That is why so many Swedish Mausers look so good. They just had a bit of gentle exercise from time to time!

You did not specify the length of the barrel. The basic model was the M1896, but many were later arsenal-converted to short-rifle/carbine length.
The number 037 is impossible as a normal series number for 1914. 1914 serial numbers were in the range 327xxx to 332xxx. So please post a good photo of the markings on the left side of the barrel ring. and the receiver. Obvious possibilities are 1) the number is partially worn away 2) the rifle is from a special series 3) you just read it (or typed it) incorrectly.

When you write that "037" is on "the back of the receiver" do you mean on the safety/bolt handle/cocking piece/ejector ? The Swedishicon Mausers (except for the Husqvarna M1938) had the last 3 digits of the serial number stamped on all major components.
