BSA 1944 No.4 (T) showed up in Local Gun Shop
Owner of the local gun shop just picked up a collection and invited me to inspect them before they go on sale (I'll post more as soon as I have a chance)....one of the items was this No.4T. No scope, sadly, which immediately made me suspicious as to its authenticity. Looking it over, I see battle aperture has been removed, has T on action, TR on butt socket, M47C for BSA, S on right of action, single stakes on the pad screws, Ishy screw in fore-end, and ... Century import marks! I thought I would consult with the forum here, because WWII snipers are not my specialty. I have Ian's books, but "T"s are slightly outside my research era, so I have not examined too many of them in person. I neglected to get a pic of the underside of the buttstock, but I can follow up.
Thoughts? Comments? Real deal? Maybe the matching scope and mount are out there somewhere. It has not been put up for sale yet. I think the new owner is hoping to offload the entire collection.

I think that we've been down this road before with a "No. 5 Mk. I" - Fake Jungle Carbine. It was marked C.I.A. Georgia Vermont. This No. 4 T. is marked C.A.I. Georgia Vermont.

Looks good to me, two scope numbers too, not sure if there may been one under the cocking piece were the wood has lifted etc. may of been heavily barred out.

It is one of the Indian imports and is a good no.4T
Most likely it has had the stock reworked as most were God awful with dents and almost black, plus with the screw. There was a number of snipers and trials rifles in the Century lot and l don't think they differentiated when shipping them out. There was some real treasures in that lot.

It looks real.
The battle sight is supposed to be removed so that’s a good sign.
Where is it? And what’s it selling for?

Yup, possibly slightly better than the average, but the Indian examples are almost invariably all 'well loved'!
