Arrow Savage No. 4 MK 1* Factory Display Rifle

    Feedback and comments anyone?

Joe Salter - Savage No. 4 MK 1* Factory Display Rifle (click here)

    Price: US $2495.00

A savage made rifle that shows the "S No. 4 MK1* on the left side. The rifle has no serial number on the frame or bolt. The only other markings are all of the savage/Stevens letters "S" and the lend lease "U.S." property mark on the left receiver.303 Britishicon caliber with a 2 groove 25 1/4 " barrel showing a bright, new 2 groove bore. A very interesting rifle that evidently never received a serial number. Condition is as new with about 99% parkerized finish remaining. The buttstock and handguard grade excellent with only a few handling marks. Standard military type sights. The "U.S. Property" marks and model stampings are crisp. This is a collector /investor grade rifle. This is a factory display rifle which was used during WWII in various displays as built by the factory to show the quality of product. This piece came out of the factory collection approx. 25 years ago during the company reorganization. None of the display pieces were ever serial number as per this near new condition piece. For the Savage, Lee Enfield or US military collector. . FFl or C&R

I daresay, the ask is a little high.

Well, for one thing it would have had a number for company records and inventory....while maybe not in the scheme of the issued rifles, but it would have had a number.
Provenance, provenance, provenance..."Show me the beef" (or documentation) Anyone know anything about a Savage "reorganization in the 80's.....???? I've never heard of one.
I think this is the super rare "Lunchious boxitis specialitis" species

    Hi All,

Hard to register without an serial number...............

The police overhere would make it very difficult to import that rifle. But its an "unique" piece, thats fore sure.

Hey, does this mean my Long Branch No4 with no serial numbers is a "factory display rifle" too?

    Woohoo, it's worth a fortune!

Maybe you should send Joe pics and ask him if it's a Long Branch experimental?

Gentlemen. The description of the Savage #4MK 1* was correct. Savage didn't really care about documentation when they went bankrupt about 25 years ago and sold alot of stuff out of their factory. The rifle is now in the hands of one of the biggest and knowledgeable #4 collectors in the US so I am told.

Apparently, someone with a lot of money to spend....

How can any description, simply made up by anyone with no documentation to support the claim, be considered "correct'?

The old expression of "buy the rifle, not the story" applies here...

Sorry, with no documentation to support the seller's claim, it's just an overpriced Savage Enfield without a serial number. There are several Long Branches floating around like that as well, so I guess they could be salesman's showroom samples too.

There's an "unfired" new condition No.4 Mk1* Savage on display in the Knowledge Libraryicon, so it's value has just jumped considerably.

    Regards,
    Badger

Of course the rifle has provenance. It will come with a framed copy of the text of the ad.
A notarized statement from the individual who bought the rifle from Savage would be nice.... So would a Savage bill of sale. But Savage didn't care about documentation....
