I'm not sure I have ever seen a real GEW98 Sniper. The Germans were under strict orders to destroy the scopes if capture was near. Many GEW98 sniper rifles were captured, but scopes are very rare indeed. I have seen the scoped rifles at big gunshows, but the dealer will usually admit the display is not true. I would guess one should try the really big gunshows. Good luck.

I know they used a lot of commercial hunting scopes on their rifles. According to Martin Pegler's book "Out of Nowhere," Gerard and Hensoldt scopes were used among the many. Other companies he lists are Fuess, Oigee, Voigtlander, Goertz, Bock, Zeiss and Busch.
That should give you somewhere to start looking.

Apart from Martins book can also suggest the "German Sniper 1914 - 1945" by Peter Senich
Frequently reprinted so easy to pick up at a bargain price - it's a real dense volume that has a lot of good data
"Backbone of the Wehrmacht: Volume II - Sniper Variations" by Law is also worth a look
