Invasion of Normandy, 6 June 1944
Lost due to striking an enemy mine off Normandy, 6 June 1944
Struck from the Naval Register, date unknown
USS LCI(L)-497 earned one battle star for World War II service

below is the last known photo of LCI 497 - the good new is that there was no loss of life among the crew due to the explosion
Not sure why picture are not showing up here is the link Landing Craft Infantry LCI(L)
USS LCI(L)-497 loaded on a barge after being removed from Omaha Beach where she struck a mine on 6 June 1944.

looks like 497 sat there long enough to rust up her hull
