Inland Stock Proofs
Did Inland ever use a proof P with serifs on any of their stocks? The OI H/W and HI L/W that I own both have san-serif P's. Thanks.

Hi Vern,
Inland used it off and on, along with early WRA, Underwood, IP and S'G' stocks can be found with a 1/2" circled (.50) P Sans Serif on the bottom of the pistol grip. I'm pretty sure some M1A1's stocks had the same stamp marked on the rear of the stock or on the pistol grip.
Here's a picture of a Circled P Proof mark.......

Charlie,
Thanks for the reply. I saw a what is the seller says is a low wood Inland with a circle P with serif on ebay. Seems like I read somewhere that they were only Sans Serif.

Rebuild proofs come in many versions, Serif and Sans Serif, boxed, circled,in a square box etc. Depends on the arsenal or depot etc... but mostly found on the front side of the grip. If it required no proof firing you may not find a P on the frt grip. Some stocks may have more than a few stamped firing/Inspection stamped P's.
A real circled P proof will be on the bottom of the grip, with the plain P a bit to the left side inside the circle.
Watch out for the Humped P proof stamps, the P inside isn't in the correct position.
Good Luck Vern.

Charlie,
Thanks. Here is the link to the stock in question. I'm not looking to buy, but I had not seen a proof P with serifs.

If real it's from a rebuild.
At that price I should dig some stocks out and auction.
It does look to be a nice stock though, and he really didn't mis-represent it as far as I can tell.
Too bad the 500 is on Sunday or I'd be listing some stocks.
Maybe later....... getting a little over run with misc wood and parts, for what projects I have time for.
Daughter heading to Italy for summer classes.... something may have to go $$
Way to go with your 'Gut' Vern !
