    Are You Sure It's Fake?

    I'm not 100% sure it's fake. But what do I know? I wasn't in Dayton in 1942.

Somebody gave the seller of the Oiler a long line of misinformation. A♠ccording to him SI (not IS) means it was given to Inland by Saginaw.

I have studied very early markings of both Inland and Winchester. Some have just a small mark that is not readable, but most their have standard markings from International Silver.

    His story is a fantasy.

$234.50 plus $10 shipping - Gulp! No one has had much to say about the authenticity of this oiler marked IS on the cap, but other than the "story" it must be the real deal - and very rare. - Bob

For some reason the listing for the stock disappeared.

I thought the dent was a nice touch. It sure as heck touched someone's wallet pretty hard.

As far as cap markings, I have possessed close to 5,000 oilers over my 40 years and inspected another dealer's inventory of close to 3,500. Other than the SW cap marked, none existed. They all came from surplus release.

On eBay I have seen fake IR cap marked. Until I find some way to authenticate them, I will continue to believe they ever existed and are fakes.
