Talking of black powder

G'day folks,

I thought I might post some pics of my latest finds. Having followed the blackpowder thread with much interest, I see that people here have alot of knowledge and I appreciate that.

I've recently been offered (and accepted) a package deal for four firearms. They are a Brown Bess, a 3-band Enfield, a Snider-Enfield and a Martini Henry. I can get more pics if it is of any help.

I'm particularly curious about the Brown Bess. It was described to me as a 'Trade Pattern' musket, and it has no maker details. It is pretty old, well alot older than the modern reproductions, but I have no idea of details

If anyone has any guesses or ideas, I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Nice finds. The Bess doesn't look British regulation to me. Perhaps a commercial "volunteer pattern" gun? (ie, no cypher, no maker's mark, no beavertail ledge, and swept back trigger guard)

There were large numbers of generic muskets made. Ships' stores, private companies, individual commercial sales, "trade", etc. Yours looks to be a good solid arm, but it could be difficult to tie it to a particular user. What proofs does it have?
