Boy does it look better. I'm partial to these Wins as I own a 5.6
It looks low mile even before clean up. Recoil plate was what? Stock came out wonderful.
Sometimes the white sacks can look weird but clean up well.
thanks

Recoil plate was W. Not correct for the serial number is band and rear sight.

My 5.6 has an adjust Hemphill
and it is original to the weapon, but they mixed them all through the spring of 44 as the were supplied. 5.5 would be Fall or late 43?

I wipped it down with denatured alcohol till it was as clean as I could get it. The hardest work was getting the stuck paper off. Let dry for ten minuets. While I was getting mineral spirits and RAW linseed oil. mixed 50-50 in a mayo jar lid. Rubbed on one coat with fingers and a small rag. After thirty minuets I wipped off all excess with a clean cloth to a dry look. Let dry for ten minuets and put metal in wood and took pictures. About a hour and a half start to finish.
No Tung or BLO please.
I like these also. This one is earlier than most I have. I must have twenty to thirty of the five million Winchesters. This one would have had a flip sight and type 1 band. It is just before the transition Winchesters. For a shooter, the type 3 rear sight and band are best. If I had a NOS flip rear sight and band I would swap them out but I don't, so they don't get changed out. The barrel is really slick and dark blue.

That sounds good, I think I'll try it. It looks like the rich wood color shows after this process.
