    Need sight help???

I do a little gunsmithing on my own firearms & have to change the dove tail sight on a front sporting ramp base. The tools are out of my $$$ reach. Is there away of doing this or a tool that can be made for this job? Thanks in advance.

What tools? It is nice to have a sight adjusting tool for each rifle, that can press the sight over on the dovetail, but the cost/utlization ratio is poor. All you need is a brass or phosphor-bronze bar of suitable cross-section to use as a drift that will bear on the dovetail and not the sight block, a supporting block below the sight block (or ramp), a hard plastic or nylon hammer, and CARE.

I doubt there is an international standard, but on most of the rifles I have worked on, the dovetail was driven out from left to right. If the replacement is a bit loose, peen the dovetail on the insert, NOT the rifle.
