    1873 Springfeild Trapdoor help

Does someone here own a trapdoor and a calipers? I need to make a base for the front sight but I need the dimensions of the base itself..Excluding the blade..I will be making a custom blade too..But need just the base dimensions..Maybe the width of the slot in the base to for the blade though..Thanks and I would appreciate the help..

Mine (a bit worn) comes in at .250 width, .350 length. Height off barrel at sides, .164, off center of barrel about .130. Blade slot about .085 deep, and .050 wide. Blade retaining pin is about dead center fore and aft, and hole center maybe .045 from top surface of the base. I'm sure there's more accurate data out there, but that should get you in the ball park. Hope that helps.
