    New to me Colt 6721A3

After years of resisting I finally bought an AR today. It's a Colt 6721 A3, it has the restricted roll stamp for military/police use only. 16.1" heavy barrel with 1/9 twist, and detachable carry handle.

Nice. I don't know why but picture #1 makes the barrel look extra long. Like 18" Optical illusion i guess because picture #4 looks fine

I usually swap out the current oval cross-sectioned double heatshield handguards for the older round type on my Colts. The old version just feels better. Otherwise about the only mod done might be a Geissele FCG. The last 6721 I got had a Rogers Superstock. Better than the old stock, but not sure if it's on par with the Magpul CTR.

I'm with you. The new M4 handguards are just too darn big and clumsy. I used to prefer the early Colt style (which I have on my retro now) but on a working weapon, I now actually like the Magpul carbine handguards better. They are roughly triangular shaped like retro M16A1 handguards, I am NOT a fan of rail handguards. Besides the fact that they are bulkier and heavier, I am loathe to hang a bunch of heavy, tacticool cr@p on a light handy weapon like the AR platform as it was designed by Stoner's team.

Wish someone had warned me. I did not figure it out until after I had turned my carbine into a boat anchor. Fixed with the Magpul Moe forend. Light and handy again.

I've been frozen with indecision there's just too many Tacticool accessories for these things, too many choices. New handguard for sure, maybe a carry handle scope to play with other then that I'll leave it be.
Besides its one MORE mouth I have to feed...

Getting cheaper to feed lots of downward pressure on 5.56 ammo prices. Shelves full.

I wouldn't go with a carry handle mount. Put an Aimpoint on it with a fixed or folding rear sight and call it a day.

A free-float fore-end is nice, especially if you bench shoot or put a vertical fore-grip on it. It keeps you from deflecting POI when you lean on the barrel or pull on the grip.
