CHS Gauges in the UK
Any one know the best place in the UK to get Head Space gauges from. I loaned my set out and the person lost them.
Ive got a L39 come in with a mismatched bolt that wont close on a round with its No0 head but will with a No1 so need to verify the CHS before sending it for re-proof.

Hi Simon, I recently tried to find CHS gauges in the UK and was disappointed with the results, I ended up getting a set from "OKIE" headspace gauges in the states, they are made to the correct UK spec and cost $55 for the go, no-go and field and that included postage. His website is Okie Headspace Gauges. If you are stuck and are going to the "Phoenix" meeting next week let me know I will send my set down for you to use as an RFD friend of mine is going to be there all weekend.

Buccaneer, send me your gauges and I will have them calibrated for you. Same goes for anyone in the UK with some of these gauges from HGAC (Haven't Got A Clue) Gauge Ltd
Don't forget SimonP that you need to FIT the bolt before you start concerning yourself with CHS. Another point that isn't well known is that to cater for irregularities in the 'new build' Fazakerley (there we go again.....) bodied L39's, there was a special size 00 bolthead that was .004 (or was it .005"?) under the 0 bolthead
Not a lot of people know that

Thanks Buccaneer thanks for the offer, I will order a set up, as i would hate to loose another set that didnt belong to me.
Thanks for the heads up Peter, the bolt has been blued & checked for fit and bears equally on both locking lugs.

Did you go right forwards first without a bolt head, close bolt over to close and THEN bring bolt body back to mark the mating surfaces. THEN slide forwards to unlock........... Just testing....... This prevents cross contamination and faulty bearing readings

CHS gauges
Hi Simon
I recently bought 3 1950s military 303 gauges (hope they weren't yours!), a .064, a .074 and a .058 inch. I have to wonder what the .058 inch gauge is for?
Kind regards
Mike

Simon, the gauges you are looking for are 7.62 gauges with a Go of 1.628 and No-Go of 1.635.

The problem with rimless gauges Brian and others is that there is no standard as to where on the tapered neck the 1.635 is measured from. It is usually from a certain diameter but, alas, that diameter isn't a standard!
So you can get a gauge that is SAID to be someones idea of 1.635, when it's calibrated on our calibration kit, it turns out to be anything BUT! I trust that you have a calibrated set Brian?
But the offers there!

The 7.62 gauges are MoD gauges. I have others for the L1A1, L7 and L4 Bren too.

Okie only sell rimmed gauges now.
I have just ordered a set from the UK agent for Accuraccy International. When they come I will send them to Peter for calibration.
