    1903 Help

Hey everybody, how's it going? I recently got a 1903 and know nothing about them. I usually into M1, M1Aicon, and M1 Carbines. I saw this and grabbed it up. I was hoping it was a standard USGI set up but when I went to get it had a different set up. The guy said he was a long range shooter. The butt plate is smooth and there is no star on the barrel, I haven't broken it down yet. The bore is bright with great grooves and is nice and tight.
Any help is greatly appreciated, like I said earlier I know VERY little about the 03
    Thanks

Looks nice. Please post the entire serial number, someone will check out the number to see if it show up as a NM rifle. Any serial number on the bolt? What about the stock or handguard? Any numbers?

I would love to have that rifle, I would give it a try in our club's Military matches.

That is a very nice looking rifle! You are very fortunate!

The receiver dates from 1921. See ViShooter's excellent website http://www.vishooter.net/m1903.html

Please post all the markings on the stock: left side; on the tip & any that may be on the butt or along the bottom by the toe. Also any on the handguard. Post any other markings or etchings on the bolt.

I thought this was a 1930 rifle. Barrel matches OK. Parkerized, it looks like an issue rifle. Stock looks sanded. Looks like a nice shooter to me. if you don't mind, what did you give for it?

Are you sure that there is not a "Star" mark on the muzzle? Every rifle listed in the SRS data with serial number starting with 1341 is an IM ( Single shot ) or some other type of IM ( I assume that stands for International Match ) rifle. The bolt looks to be polished. Are the receiver race ways polished also? We need more information.

    More Info

Hey guys was out of town, thanks for all your reply's. I haven't had a chance to break it down yet but here's some more info.

There's a 's' in the magazine cutoff well
    The butt plate is smooth.
There's no number on the butt along the bottom
The barrel is a 1:6 groove
I didn't see a star mark, is it an actually a star? I looked hard again and did see a capital 'U'

I looked at the serial number on old guns-
The year of manufacture for serial number 1341736 is 1930.
Model 1903A1 rifles were made after 1929 with a full pistol grip type C stock, but were otherwise the same as earlier Model 1903 Rifles and marked Model 1903.

I'll try to get more pics up, what specifically are you guys looking for and I'll try to find it.
    Thanks again

www.oldguns' date of manufacturing table and other info, isn't always the best.

    A 1:6 groove?
