1903 ? Help What do I have and What is it worth?

I Aquired this about 4 years ago and put it in my safe, Now I have decided to pull it out and sell it... I was told its a custom Springfeild .30-06 but dont know anything about that type of gun or who might have built this one? What would something like this be worth?
Any input would be helpful. Numbers on the Bolt are 3172618 (the bolt does have an angle to it as you can see on the cut on the stock). And I was told by a gun dealer in Austin that the stock was Oak.

    Thanks
    Josh

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. You said any input would help, so here I go:

To get better profit, save the nice scope and put a cheapie on it. They will probably already have their favorite scope to put on.
You could even just take scope off.
Don't expect too much money with that "awful" stock. Was nice in the 60's but not now.
More pictures not so close-up that it gives a headache.
Good luck and please tell us how much it went for.

Sporterized M1903s typically are valued - by collectors - for the value of original parts. Shooters won't care as long as it functions OK. Your rifle has almost zero appeal to collectors as the receiver has been drilled & tapped and the barrel, it it is the military barrel, has had the rear sight base & front sight removed. How long is the barrel (i.e., has it been cut from the original 24")? Any marking near the muzzle? It also has a commercial safety and trigger. The stock appears to be walnut, not oak but that is a moot point as it has little sales appeal. The metal has been polished & blued.

If I were to try to sell it, I'd replace the stock with a classic style synthetic stock and make the scope optional.

Don't put any money into it. It will be a cheap hunting rifle for someone. Value? Around $500.00 give or take.

negative 20.00 lol...i dont like plastic stocks on vintage rifles. i actually like the stock, gives the rifle a personality, have yet to find a good plastic stock that wont crack, or flex. a good walnut stock thats bedded right, will shoot better then a ugly plastic one..
you can go to any gunshow in the country and get rifles just like that for a 250.00 offer...i buy them all the time for the sum of parts..
if...it was drilled for a redfield base, and done nicely, and had a good scope, Redfield, Leupold, Burris, ect,. then 350.00 375.00 would be a realistic price.
hard to get over 350.00 for a sporterized rifle, when if you shop you can get a modern bolt gun, Winchester, Remington or Savage for 350.00 to 500.00 in whatever cal you like.
if it were mine, and i wasnt building replica A4,s id leave the rifle as is, maybe glass bed the stock if its not already done, clean the bore real well, and leave it as it is..
    like the saying goes...
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is...lol
