Finnish Capture Mosin PU
Hello. I bought my second Finnish Mosin today. The pics probably tell the story. Have a look and enjoy. I used to be into Mosins more actively, but not so much anymore. I am especially lacking in the Finnish area so any input is appreciated.

Very nice looking Finn-capture. I don't mean to disappoint you, though the likelihood of this being a genuine Finn-captured PU is very slim. There are no marks on the barrel that usually deem a Tula to be a sniper, and I also believe that the PEM was still in use in 1937, while the PU arrived in 1942. Most scopes were destroyed by the Soviet snipers in case of capture and I don't believe the Finns made their own. This scope looks to be post-war from my understanding. The front sights would never have been removed even if the rifle was a sniper, as they still came in handy. I know Century put together a ton of replica PU's using Real PU mounts and scopes on Finn capture 91/30's, this may be one of them. A very small number of PU's were recorded by the Finns after the war, and most had the scope removed before being imported to the US, less than 100 have been recorded in ownership.

@theSovietSamurai yes, you are correct on all counts. I believe the scope is a real Process, but the mount is clearly a reproduction. Also, yes, PU's did not show up 'till '42. This will be a very nice shooter I am sure. It is not a disappointment, especially considering the price I paid for it. I think you are also correct on the Finns not making their own scopes. As far as I know they did not make PU's at all.

Authenticity of the package aside being a Finn it will probably make a good shooter. Very nice

I traded for a Century repro recently (and yes I knew it wasn't a real PU sniper...got one of those! lol). Just thought it was cool to have a Finn capture and an authentic PU scope to go shooting with so the REAL PU sniper can stay safe and sound in my cabinet. Although not a true sniper, the Century put togethers are a beauty in themselves and looking forward to slinging some lead with mine.

Took a quite awhile to zero it, but once you figure it out I think that for the distances most people shoot you probably won't be able to tell the difference. It did take a lot of "fiddling" to figure it out though. The problem with the repros is you have to mess with the little screws in the mount sometimes and it adds a whole dimension of variables to the process.

The mount and base are post-war Soviet era. This style with the parkerized/bead blasted finish on the base, rings, and back of the mount was made from the early 1950s up through the end of the Soviet Union.
