Came across an interesting STEN Mk5.

I came across an interesting STEN Mk5 the other day. I've never seen such a late example.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Strange markings but Fazakerley were still FTRing them for sale overseas and as they were withdrawn, for War Reserve stores. The Government were desperate to keep Fazakerley open but try as they could, the self imposed death wish was too great! ROF 6 was in fact Fazakerley but this is clearly 1965 and VERY late although they were still in limited UKicon military service until the later 60's A new type serial number too because they were allocated serial number blocks commencing VS and if a lost number, then a ZZ number and later a SA-- number.

Thanks Peter, I've never seen a Mk5 or any STEN in fact with the date Axxxxx format serial number. I guess I need to keep an eye out for one now.

    Cheers, Chris.

    Hello,

I bought a Deactivated Sten Mk5 here in Norwayicon the other day, and was puzzled about the strange markings on it.

I Googled the net and read everything I could find on the Mk5, but could not understand the numbers.... until I found this thread

Looks like I have the same issue. I attach a photo of mine:

    Regards,
    Niels
