Remington 11 Sportsman Question

Recently acquired a beautiful Rimington Model 11 Sportsman. It is US Military finish, barrell code RMM, serial # 710xxx, has a cutts, and the crossed cannons with FJA on the left side of the butt stock. The receiver and barrel have matching numbers, but I cannot remove the forward bolt holding the stock in place. I suspect it has never been removed, but wanted to check and see if there is a serial number, hopefully matching. Is there a secret I am missing ? Or should I just leave it as it probably has never been loosened ?

Nope no secret should just come off. The hand guard may have a piece of veneer like material around the inside of forearm which might hang up on the barrel take care of removing. Usually there is instructions pasted to the inside of the hand guard on how to reduce recoil. Not sure how you could tell if barrel is matching serial number if my memory serves me correct the serial number is stamped on the ring that goes over the mag tub only visible with hand guard off. Good luck put some elbow grease into it. Jeff B

Thanks Jeff. No problem with the handguard, just the butt stock bolt. Tried again, no ues. Rather than bugger it up...I will leave it. I am almost convinced it has never been off, and that being the case...would signify it as original.

I don't think you have to remove the forward screw to get the buttstock off.

You have to first remove the rear tang screw and, of course, its locking screw (these are located at the rear of the trigger plate on the underside of the gun). Then pull the stock rearward to take it off. The manual says that it you still have trouble taking it off, then remove the trigger plate pin and its lock screw (these are located on the left side of receiver slightly forward and above the trigger guard). The trigger plate pin is removed by driving it out from the right to left side of the receiver using something like a punch to drive it out. Once the pin it out, release the carrier by pressing the carrier latch button, then press the forward end of the trigger plate upward slightly into the receiver.

If the gun is really nice, you might not want to risk breaking something or buggering up the screws.

You got it. I was too concerned with removing the forward bolt. It slid off with only removing the rear bolt....and the number matches the SN. Worth the effort to know. THANK YOU.
