    Stevens 520-30 Trench Gun question.

Hello all....I have a question for the Stevens Trench Gun experts.
What does it mean if the stock on a Stevens 520-30 Military Trench gun in the 50000 serial range is not serial numbered but instead has an "R" struck where the serial number should be?
    Thanks
    Greg
