R1 and L1A1 flash hiders interchangeable?

Are the flash hiders from the L1A1 able to fit on the Metric R1? I have a SA barrel on a 7.62 LMG that has a R1 flash hider that would look more like an L4 if it had a L1A1 hider

Not only that, the 'Inch' Flash Eliminator requires a slot to be cut into the barrel so the Key can be fitted and then retained by a Pin.

Not even sure you will be able to screw the F/E onto the barrel, I would suspect the the diameter of the barrel would be greater than a L1A1 barrel.

As a bit of an aside, if you wanted to simplify things regarding the f/e key and pin/slotted barrel, you could screw the f/e on using a suitable hot-break lok-tite - as we did on the L85/6 rifle and LSW.

It also can be done if you have enough tools and are willing to make all the adjustments. Just measure it up and see?

Did anyone ever establish exactly what thread the L1A1 rifle has on the muzzle. I suspect that it'll be a metric pitch over a diameter.

Morning Peter, I think (need to check to be sure though) my mate fitted an L1A1 5 slot FE onto his Imbel Fal a few years back, so it would suggest a metric pitch for the L1A1 muzzle thread.

The threads on an L1A1 Barrel for the Flash Eliminator are 9/16X24 RH thread.

Metric FALs are left hand threads, while Inch are right hand thread. Both 9/16ths X 24.

I put an Inch 5 slot on my Metric para. Required me to cut the old threads off, re-thread for right hand threads and cut the key way.

I've heard of guys just cutting the new threads right over the old ones.

Check with DSA, I think they carry look-a-like flash hiders with the opposite threads.
