ammo at the Eastern games
just thought you guys might want to know about the ammo. we got issued Hornady 168g A-Max rounds. #81170 lot #3090915. this shot very well in the Garands and 03's. I was a little concerned about the little plastic tips, but it all seemed to work good. Gary Anderson asked the group of us how we liked it, no one complianed. every one was happy. the box said 2700fps, but I heard someone say it wasn't that fast??? I have a few round left over, when I get a chance I'll put them through a chrony, and post the results.
on another note, they had rifles and carbines for us to look / buy. most were the run of the mill stuff. but one guy did get a WWII Garand with the right barrel, lock bars, SA/NFR stock. barrel was good, stock was a little beat. flat side op-rod and wide gas cyl. but not a bad find. they also had Garand, 1903,1917 barrels for sale. lots of stocks, they looked great too. the 03/A3 stocks were very nice. HXP ammo for sale, but only two cans per person. it went quick, but they only had a little of it.

Interesting! Orest had indicated the CMP would be issuing the HXP. Guess the stockpile is getting smaller. Guess the 407 192 round spam cans won't last the summer.
Any Service Grades for sale or were all the rifles Field Grades?

I think all were field or rack, but I'm positive. most were SA, but a lot of H&R also. I'm not a Carbine guy, but some of them had very good barrels, checked as -0- or 1/2. one carbine had a WRA stock that my friend got.

I tagged a 5.8 feild grade that measured MW-1 TE-2. With new woood, it will make a very nice and accurate JCG rifle.
The Hornady ammo was a real treat. By far the best ammo for these rifles.
It wasn't as hot as the HXP, and functioned perfectly. I shot a 289 in the Games and a 380 in the Garand EIC, 6pts over the EIC winner. I was out of competition because I got the points last year. The ammo was ceratainly a factor in my improved scores, but it is hard to say that it was the only one.
You still have to shoot straight. When I shot a 9, I know it was me.
