US Army Long Range .30 cal cartridge
The US Army Marksmanship Training Unit at Fort Benning tested some long range cartridges during the late 1950's into the early 1960's. The AMU cartridge case was developed from the wildcat Ackley Improved 300 magnum. Both Remington and Winchester made cartridge cases. The Remington headstamp had the H&H MAG deleted from the headstamp and Winchester used a military headstamp of WCC 60. Loads using both 197 gr and 200 gr bullets were tested. After around 1963 the 30 AMU was dropped and the 30-338 became the cartridge of interestAttachment 99399Attachment 99400
