    smle front sight post

Hi all, the photo is of a 1917 SSA no.1 mk 3, does anyone have any suggestions as to why the front sight post leans to one side, this rifle is not in my posession yet,so I dont know what effect this has on accuracy. I've been told that the barrel (replaced in 1939) may have been over tightened, If this was so,wouldn't it lean the other direction?

Like that, the rifle will be shooting, well, anywhere because any natural harmonics will have been so brutally dampened by the action of the foresight block butting up against the nose cap and..... and....... Look, it's wrong and the only thing you can do is to sort it out by stripping off the woodwork and investigating further. Any other suggestions are academic I'm afraid. Strip it and see/check the alignment

Could be a warped fore-end, which gives the impression that the fore sight is wrong, but it is the nose cap that is out due to the fore-end.

Try bore sighting it first. Have an Ishaphore 2a1 which is the same and looks worse than your pic.

Big duke, did it have much effect on the accuracy of your rifle ?,Peter, Its going to take some time to get a licence approved for this rifle, so stripping it down etc.is not an option for now.
The idea of posting here was to see if any of the more experienced milsurp owners (this is my first) had come across this before, and if so , what did they do ,if anything , to fix it

No the rifle is fine and accurate (but thats this rifle) , the blade had been adjusted so far left it was off target when I first recieved it, after adjustment was all ok and producing a good group. Its only when you look at the sight picture you can see the cant on the nose cap.

If the sight block is butting up against the nose cap as Peter states, then you need to follow his advice.

Look JDun....... if the rifle is like that it simply means that there's TROUBLE ahead. At one extreme, it COULD indicate that someones has tried to UN-screw the barrel and twisted it. You won't/cannot know unless it's stripped. If you can't strip it and see, then DON'T buy it. You wouldn't buy a car that was veering over to the left all day would you? Well don't buy this heap of crap either

Could be wrong here, need a better photo, but that nosecap looks similar to one i have, the protectors look (& are on mine) uneven, giving the illusion of a canted front sight.

Sorry about the photo quality 5thBatt, it's the best I've got for the moment, I've been comparing the two pics and they appear to look very similar
    Thanks
