the picture is of the holes drilled in the actionand the two scope numbers that are stamped on it.the holes are consistant with the warner and swasey mount and the numbers im thinking are of the scope that it was fitted with .was this one of the original 500 ross sniper rifles, thats my question

Gordon, It sure looks like it has been drilled for the Warner Swasey base. I'm not an expert on the Ross rifles but it sure looks promising. Pretty exciting find if it pans out. Did you check out the Knowledge Library article and photos on the Ross sniper? Here's the link:

were the scope numbers stamped on the receiver as seen in this photo.one of the numbers as a line trough it indicating that the original scope must have been replaced with another.the photo shown in ross snipers shows scope mount number 18 on the mount and cary case. The number on the receiver can not be seen it would be behind the scope base if the receiver was in fact numbered.I dont know

Gordon, I've sent you a PM with my mail address to which you can send me additional pictures to post for you here.
In the meantime, please check the spacing between the holes. The two holes on the right should be 0.85" apart, the one on the left should be 1.2" apart from the middle hole (all center to center).

Gordon, when you find time please do send me a few more pictures of your barreled action and let me know whether I am allowed to post them here on this forum.
In the meantime thank you for checking the spacing. Would you mind if possible to also do one or two pictures where you hold a guide next to the holes to show the spacing also in a picture?
Please also let us know what in particular you have. You said you have a barreled action. Does this include the bolt, trigger group, magazine, rear sight, etc. or any other parts - or is it really only the receiver with a barrel? And is the barrel still full military length, trim (meaning original front sight, no rear sight on the barrel added by bubba) and caliber?
Also a more general information which might help you in researching, the full designation for your action is Ross M1910 Mk.III* (or M10 Mk.III*).
