    Milsurp ammo in Ladysmith

I had the very good fortune to visit the Boer War museum in Ladysmith Natal.
They had several martini enfields in 577/450, several in .303. four variations of very pristine Lee Metfords, a M95 mauser in 7x57 and a M98 Mauser carbine in 7x57. Not to mention an 8mm Geddes.

In the one display case they had 577/450 ammo, 303 ammo, 7x57 ammo, and 8mm Geddes collected from the battlefield. Mixed in with this was a single cartridge that looked very much like a .222 or .223 rimless. No one at the museum had any knowledge of what it may have been. The card in the display case refered to the ammo as "picked up from a battle field".
Any ideas of what this smaller rimless cartridge may be?

Boers also had Krags in 6.5x55. Could also be a sporting ctg dropped in the last 100 years.

    Haven't a clue.

If it was a rimmed cartridge it may be a .22 Savage Hi-Power (5.62x52R) which was popular with pot-hunters in Africa beginning in the '20s. Rimless? No.
