Shortened Ishapore 2A
Upon my arrival at the local gun shop I spotted a shortened SMLE leaning upon the shelf. It turned out to be an Ishapore 2A that had been cut down similar to a Lithgow shortened and lightened rifle. The rifle comes with bayonet, and a 22. conversion tube and bolt. The barrel sticks out past the nosecap approximately 1/4 of an inch, which made me a wee bit wary of the rifle, so I thought I would ask! They are asking $450.00 on consignment, Im just wondering if its homemade or not and if it is worth the trouble!

Only the .22 conversion sounds at all interesting!

Apparently the 22 conversion kit is not for that rifle but it is for any 303 SMLE. He wants $200 for the conversion tube and the bolt, which happens to have a mark one cocking piece

Just read about the morris tube in Skennertons book, this seems to fit the bill according to his description.

Seems like the .22 conversion is worth getting!
Photos would be worth doing. And it's own special thread.

It won't be a Morris Tube if it's a shortened barrel on the RFI No1 will it? Even if it protrudes by 1/4" or so as this'll be needed to screw up the brass nut. Unless someones got a Morris tube with a bulged muzzle and cut it short too!
Just my take on things but without more info or pics from Kman, we're all up a dead end

Reading Kman,s first post I was under the impression the original Barrel protruded 1/4" as for the .22 no mention of the length.

For what it's worth, Navy Arms Co. made up a batch of shortened 2A1's some years ago and Numrich used to sell newly (Indian?) made .22 conversion kits.
