These are all I have, Peter - its up for sale and these are the only pictures available at the moment.
The seller says it was used on the GPMG and SLR....

I can tell you that it definately wasn't used on the GPMG and the SLR/L1A1.
Do you recognise it Tankie or Skippy?

looks LIKE a CVRT commanders sight (with the iris controle and range controle knobs) but I dont think this one is.
Not used on the SLR may have been used with a GPMG on a vehicle machine gun mounting...

Thanks Skippy. Waco, ask the seller for clearer photos of the switches and the markings. The rotary switches look like those from the later (?) RP/SS20 night sights that were compatible with the L7 and L1A1. A photo of the mounting bracket configuration would also help solve the answer

Definatly a CVRT comanders sight for the cupola mounted GPMG, the sight could also IIRC be used out of the vehicle but with a tripod type periscope well it was more of a mirror on the top of the tripod and the device sat underneath between the legs, but memory fades as the Grolsh in those days was both cheap and plentiful. but I would say it was never SA weapon mounted.
have just looked again this one has a straight eyepiece and not 90 deg but I still say vehicle mounted
