Thanks

The button unscrews but you need to be carefull not to damage it when grasping it with pliers. Pad them with thin leather and don't bite through the leather with the jaws.

Until VERY recently, in fact until I retired and left my tool kit at work, I still had the 'screwdriver, forked, bayonet' in my tool kit. It was also used on the No5 bayonet too. The inside edges of the forked part were angled to reflect the angle of the slots on the NUT, catch!

I knew there had to have been a special tool. Wish I had one. I will try the pliers and lether root. Thanks for the info

Can't you make one with a screwdriver?

Surely can, simple mill or cut a slot in an appropriately sized screwdriver of decent quality.
