Something REALLY off topic.........
I'm aware of how these threads tend to wander off topic occasionally so this time I'll start one completely off topic for a change
About to start a rebuild on a 1999 VW Polo 1.4 16valve GTi 5 speed gearbox with 'run' diff bearings. Anyone out there in forumland familiar with them who can keep me on an even keel and guide me away from any major catastrophies?
Thanks...

No, but I've been busy building window screens lately...

If I need a screen fitted BAR, I'll be straight on the phone. But re the gearbox, such is the versatality of the site that I BET that within a week, a forumer will chip in with the info I need!

Sorry Peter, I was just going with the theory of the wandering thread...

Last VW transmission I rebuilt was a 76 and 81 four and five speed. (The four speed was kaput internally, mostly, and the five speed had one broken housing half. Smashed the two together with some mods and made a five speed for my US$300 '76 Scirroco.) But it was around 1988! Might still have the factory manuals, but they very probably not apply to such a newer model.
