Help me build an Arms Room.

Hey Guys,

I am building a garage on my property in a few months. I work from home, so I'm putting my home office in the garage as well. I thought I might add a arms room to the back of the office. Somewhere I could have some weapons openly displayed without fear of break-in. Maybe a work bench and a couch to chill out. Does anyone have anything like this? I'm looking for ideas on how to construct it, ways to display/arrange on the inside, and would appreciate any help.

Rule #1, don't tell anyone about it. Well now you have to work on that, but no windows and install a metal door with a few deadbolts. I'm sure you'll find a few good suggestions.

Apply #10 gauge flattened expanded metal to your studs, before applying the sheet rock. This makes it very difficult for a perp to take a chain saw or foot to kick in a wall to access the space.
Get a welded metal door frame and door. Lag bolt the frame to the concrete floor, and install kickers on the header to the structure above.
Three 2" throw solid deadbolts, top, mid and bottom, each with keyed lock.
Then, the best way is to hide that door behind a moving shelf or somesuch. They can't break in if they don't know it's there.

I have always thought the best way would be to have a reinforced concrete "box" built inside and I don't mean made of blocks but formed poured concrete including the roof. Yes it would cost more but things would be pretty secure. Takes a bit of planning but well worth the time and money.

If I built a new home I would excavate under the attached garage and have a "basement" with a poured wall to the inside of the house as well. You can get a vault door at a reasonable price and if properly alarmed no crook could get thru it before help arrived.
