Bayonet ID Help

About 6 months ago i picked up a bayonet for my 98k mauser. Its WWII era and i didnt want to pay for an authentic one so i bought what i assumed was a repro from an older guy for $15. I wondering if anyone could ID the bayo as a repro or if it was real. I know its not german, but thats beside the point. Thanks to all who help!!

It's a postwar Yugo M48 bayonet made at factory Preduzece 44.

$15 is cheap even for a repro which this isn't so you got a good deal on it. These are often sold in sets with other accessories for the Yugo rifles. While it should fit on the k098, it isn't the correct model. The German bayonets do not have a barrel ring.

any ideas on yhe value of the bayo? the sheath and bayo are marked with the same number. also is there a way to date the bayo and what does the "44" mean?

I saw one today at an antique place for $35.00. No sheath and the metal had all been polished removing all the marks with the exception of the serial number.

Matching numbers will obviously add to its value as this in itself is probably a rarity.

The price at the antique shop was high for the condition. I've seen these in the $40-45 range on different websites complete with sheath although it may or may not have matching numbers.

Your photos are all coming out very small so it's hard to see the condition. It looks good from what I can tell.

I most definitely would have bought yours at the price you paid. I'm not an expert, just a casual collector so I can't really give you any reliable pricing other than what I've seen. It's not nearly as desirable as a German made K98 bayonet at present but who knows what the future may hold.

I got a similar deal to yours with a Spanish Mauser bayonet at a yard sale early this year for $15 with sheath.

They are not making bayonets like that anymore. If you can find any that are decent and a price you are happy with, buy it. Now you have an excuse to pick up a rifle that matches it. Preferably a Yugo Mauser M48A. It has a stamped mag cover and they shoot great!

That's the way I look at it. I've been keeping my eyes open for a Spanish Mauser to fit my bayonet. Haven't seen a nice one at a good price that hasn't been converted to some other caliber. That shouldn't be a problem with the M48's. I have the long bayonet which is to fit the Spanish Carbine version. Most of these seem to have been converted to 7.62 Nato and that's a pretty strong cartridge for them.
