Winchester 94 help and hunting pics!

Went hunting today, and it turned out to be one of my most interesting hunts yet. A landowner near my house asked me to exterminate hogs which were destroying his property's making it difficult to sell. I was hunting with my grandfathers Winchester Model 94 30-30, when a 150yds out I spotted a large hog. I took a shot, hit it in the head, and dropped it. Well as I went to examine it, half way there another hog burst from a hole no more than 5m from me, so I swung one handed and shot it point blank in the head.

Now the problem, I never paid attention before, but it seems that there used to be a stake in the hand guard, which now seems to be missing. But on the opposite end there is still something in there. The hand guard now moves when medium pressure is applied.

Can someone post pics of what it should look like, and how to fix it?

The band screw has broken off leaving part of the threads stuck in the band on the opposite side. Replacement screws are available at Numrich Gun Parts for around $3.50. The real challenge could be getting the rest of the screw out of the band, especially if it's seized and enough remains to prevent the band from being removed for easier access.
You did a good job on those porkers. Should be some fine eating.

He'll know quick enough if the band moves. If not then strip the whole affair off by sliding it forward as you strip the front. Front band first and then mag tube. Then you should be able to just roll the band off the forestock. Let us know...
    Regards, Jim
