What year did the M2 kit come out?
The field mod kit with the M2 Catch and 30rd mag, I believe that is when the stock mods were done? Just trying to date a carbine.

The magazine catch with the support "leg" on the left side was standardized in March 1945. The 30 round magazine was standardized in April 1945.

The field kits and stock modifcations were all done post war. The kits to turn the M1 into an M2 were mostly done during the Korean war and after it.

So these mods could have been done late in 1945??? I have a rifle with the mag catch, 30 rd mag, and very sloppy M2 cut. The rest of the rifle is original, type 1 band, flip sight, carry bag. just trying to figure out when it escaped.

The M2 design was approved in October 1944 as was the T17 kit to convert M1s in the field to M2s. So conceivably field modifications using the approved kit could have been done as early as late 1944.

Brian, I have never seen or heard of any M2 kits being made during WW2. Do you have any information on who made the kits and how they were stamped? TIA
