Initial Sale of M1 Carbines
I am posting what I believe is the original ad for the sale of M1 Carbines through the DCM. This ad appeared in the May 1963 issue of the American Rifleman. The demand was great and the wait time was long. I ordered two of them- one for me and one for my wife. The carbines were processed through the Government Equipment section of the NRA as were the final sales of the 03A3. It was possible to join the NRA and order the carbine simultaneously. The carbines wee shipped without magazines. I read in the Dope Bag in the American Rifleman that this was at the request of the NRA for California had a law (later rescinded) that classified any firearm with a magazine capacity greater than 10 shot capacity made the firearm a machine gun. Shades of the past.
No1. It was an IBM carbine and was in serviceable but well used. The original order was dated May 1963 and the carbine was shipped on 30 April 1964. Unfortunately the carbine is now lost. My brother was an LEO in the Louisiana and wanted one so I gave him this one. It was lost during hurricane Karina.
No2. Was National Postal Meter carbine and was/is in pristine condition. I still have this one.

This ad appeared in the December 1960 American Rifleman Magazine and it irritated the NRA members.

$20 DCM M1 carbines
Here are some photos of the pages offering the M1 Carbines. I got a nice Q.H. in the 1,6 million range with July 1943 barrel, I think ? price was right and I already had a Plainfield carbine but wanted the G.I. look. I did here and it could have been a rumor, that some M1A1 carbines were also sold under this DCM/NRA arrangement too.Attachment 97558Attachment 97559Attachment 97560
