Hodgden HS-7 powder
I aquired a pound of HS-7 an was wondering if anyone has used this powder. Can it be used for 45acp, 380 or 32-20. I would like to burn it up rather than throwing it away.
Thanks for the help.

Jamie:
I think HS7 is a little slow for what you want to do. Here's a blurb from the Hodgdon website. I think it's a little more appropriate for heavier, magnum calibers.
Others experience, of course, may vary:
HS7:
A relatively fast burning spherical Olin manufactured propellant, HS7 is kin to Winchester 571. It is basically a shotshell powder that has handgun applications. This powder was named for the 7th in a series of Hodgdon shotshell powders. Hodgdon suggests the 357 Magnum, 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum and 45 Winchester Magnum as well suited applications of this powder.
HS7 is a spherical propellant that is an excellent heavy field load for game such as turkey and goose. HS7 is used to load some pistol cartridges including .357 mag.,.41 mag.,.44 mag., and .45 Win. Mag. HS-7 is identical to Winchester's discontinued 571. Available in 1 lb. & 8 lb. containers.

Like you, I was given several pounds of HS7. It did not burn cleanly, consistently or give good accuracy with any of the the cases you listed. Except for 32/20 rifle loads with Lyman 311440 (150 grain) cast bullets, it wasn't as good a most others. I ended up giving it to a shotgun reloader for heavy field loads. HTH, Ric

The word on the street is that Hodgdon replaced HS-7 with Longshot. Now i can say that HS-7 worked very well for me in the 10MM
