Very nice rifle. I have two of them that I purchased from an Army competition shooter back in the 90's. I still shoot them both. They are getting up there in price. I am currently modifying a Mauser K98 and M1917 Enfield to take the Springfield M2 system. Both will be repeaters. Good luck and enjoy your purcahse.

modification to 22 rim fire
I have seen photos of the Enfield Pattern 1914 converted to 22 rim rifle which involves removing part of the top receiver ring and extensive bolt work.
I have a low numbered Springfield 1903 converted to use the 22 rim fire by having a barrel liner installed with an extension at the breech. Also bought a M2 bolt with the headspace adjustment. Can be very accurateAttachment 85756Attachment 85757
I did install an old Lyman 438 4x scope

I don't like to use the term unissued as who knows. But you surely have have a fine M2 with correct original finish and parts. That is a very difficult item to find.

Very nice! Looks very crisp and thankfully, it hasn't been drilled and tapped. Is there a cartouche on the left flat of the stock? My M2 is #223X in about the same condition with a barrel date of 1-33, which makes it a first year production. My best .22 match rifle is an older Winchester 75. Both group the same but the Winnie has a softer trigger. I very seldom see nice GI M2's at shows anymore for under $1,500.

1922 Springfield Parts needed
A Springfield Armory M1922MII .22 Cal came into the shop and is a very nice piece, 95%. Only requested work was cleanup and test firing. An easy one!!!
Anyway additional requestes were for a few missing parts.....three to be exact.
First is a 5rd clip...need original parkerized with M2 imprinte.
Second is the rear Peep. Need a Lyman 48 (C) or (B).
Third is a Butt plate. This one is a maybe as I believe this model had solid checkered butt plates without a trapdoor. Included a pic of his....with trapdoor. I'll replace if it is easy. Otherwise I'll forget it. He will buy a plate outright or Trade if it helps.Attachment 86098

The butt plate should indeed be solid. All the mags for those that I've had have been blued and the one you need should be marked M2. Lyman 48c sights aren't hard to find and will probably cost less than an original mag. The M2 has to be one of the highest quality .22 target rifles ever made. Sounds like a fun project! It's best to only shoot .22 Long Rifles in those because shorter rounds damage the forcing cone.

I wish my search for the Peeps and clip was a little easier. I hate spending hours playing hunt and peck when I have a ton of work on the bench. Interesting thing the only butt plates on Numrich are trapdoors under the 1922 listing. Any suggestions on where to search would be appreciated. The clip is running around $150 but like you say finding one is anyones guess. I have seen parkerized but few and far between.I'm not gonna be picky as long as the "M2" is there. One thing I still need to find out is with serial #17704 is the Lyman 48 (C) or (B) correct.I believe the early models had the "B", but I can't find any info on the serial number to know if it's an early or late.
Thers another thing on this one that I believe will mess up it's worth.....Hand scribed number on bolt is NOT the serial number. So it could be a bolt out of another piece or they scribed something else. Serial number 17704.....Number on bolt 2605.
Anywhooo thanks for reply....I'm wasting too much time chattin'
Thanks
Rick

Rick,
The butt plates and other M2 parts are occasionally offered on Ebay but there are some dealers on the M14 Forum and a WTB ad will probably yield some results. Also, try GunBroker. The sights on the many M2's I've had have all been 48C's. Early in the M2 series they went to an adjustable headspacing bolt and those already in service were so modified. $150 for an original mag is about typical. Definitely try the M14 Forum because several of their sponsors trade antique US military parts. Good luck!
