OT-WWI AEF USMC Marine Service Numbers

4th Brigade WWI AEF Marine Service Numbers have nothing to do with time in service or the date you joined. If you give me an AEF WWI Marine Service Number, I can tell you what Regiment and Battalion he was in (and maybe Company), or if he was a replacement.

I caught on when I saw numerous Battalion Scout Snipers with consecutive Serial Numbers without regard to their Enlistment date.

The Marines were smarter than I thought. If a Marine found another wounded Marine, he would know exactly to what unit the wounded Marine belonged.
