Need help finding LER Scope base for a Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant
I bought one of the mounts advertized a being for the Model 1891 and other models. It won't work on my M1891 which was made by Remington in 1917. The space in the sight base is only about .312" wide. The mount I bought is much wider. Even if I milled it down to size the screws that hold it to the sight base will not fit through the sight base pin hole. The reason for wanting a scope is my bad eye sight. Any Ideas will be appreciated.

This will most likely sound like a dumb question. Can you change your base and put a 91/30 base on it without much trouble? Just throwing an idea out there. I assume you don't want to drill and tap it or you would put a conventional scope on it.

Correct, I don't want to do anything to permanently alter the rifle. On this rifle, the base is permanently attached, probably soldered. But, I appreciate the suggestion.

I am surprised that no one seems to have information on a Scout base for the early Mosin-Nagants, 1891.
